Catalant’s Evolution of Consulting 2.0
At Catalant we believe that companies and executives are done paying traditional consulting firms for teams composed of junior consultants with little to no real-world work experience.
We also believe that much of the world’s best talent increasingly want to work on an independent basis. And we know that when those highly talented professionals venture out to start an independent practice that doesn’t mean they want to be alone.
That’s why over the last ten years we’ve built the world’s largest community of global independent consultants. Today, the Catalant network consists of over 100,000 professionals, including partners and project leaders from McKinsey, Bain, and BCG, C-suite executives, VPs, and Directors from the Fortune 500, and former leaders from high-growth PE- and VC-backed organizations.
We’re seeing what Clay Christensen predicted a decade ago when he wrote about consulting’s impending disruption; while many of the large consulting firms are actively reducing the size of their partner pool we’re seeing our network grow by over 500 consultants per month, and while most consulting firms are reporting low or negative growth our demand is growing double digits quarter-over-quarter.
To support that, we’ve redesigned our go-to-market organization, changed the way we partner with independent consultants, and evolved our products and the way we operate to help us maximize the value we bring to our Clients in the ways needed to support them best. Those changes include:
- New services and products for clients structured around three categories:
- Catalant Teams: We still make it easy for our clients to find and work with a team of one individual, and increasingly our clients are using Catalant to bring on teams of consultants as an alternative to a traditional firm.
- Catalant Advisory: The former consultants and operators signing up for our platform are deeply experienced and are partnering with our clients as advisors to help our clients think through complex problems. They also can help scope out work as needed.
- Catalant Benches gives our clients the power of having a pre-vetted, curated bench of available Experts who are the best in the areas you need and ready to get right to work.
- Developing much deeper partnerships with our Expert Community. We’ve built a new organization solely focused on building partnership with our Experts, offering services that help them grow their practices and deliver work just as well as if they were at a firm, and we’ve introduced new ways for Clients to interact with Experts. This helps us bring the best Experts to you in real-time.
- Revamping our sales team to industry-aligned Client Communities. By building deeper relationships on both Client and Expert sides, our Client Communities are able to connect their Clients with experienced Experts in every conversation and bring forward diagnostics, maturity assessments, and other tools developed by Experts that solve our clients’ problems.
- Growing our company leadership. Roeland Vertriest joined us as President & Chief Commercial Officer. Roeland helped build McKinsey’s Operations practice, was an Expert on our platform, and led a 4-year transformation at DuPont as Chief Transformation Officer, using Catalant as the preferred partner in that transformation. Roeland is the first in an effort to bring on more Catalant team members who have experience in the problems you’re facing.
